Weaving Together Bayanihan NYC 2020: Memories of my Childhood | Date: Saturday September 5, 2020 | Hours: 10:00 am - 3:15 pm | Place: K’Glen Deli & Sari Sari @ 39-16 65th St, Woodside, NY 11377

In this celebration we will be weaving with the community, focusing specifically on two objects that are familiar and feel like home for Filipinos. Using the Bilao (a traditional Filipino rice winnower) and the Pamaypay (a traditional Filipino handheld fan) we as a community, will begin to explore and celebrate not only these objects, but the special memories, and connection to home that these objects represent.

At this celebration there will be a weaving activation and workshop taught by instructors from Weaving Hand and Cynthia Alberto. Multiple rolling rack looms available for community participants to weave on, as well as personalized looms created out of the Bilao and the Pamaypay. All materials that will be woven come from 100% recyclable materials including; scrap fabrics and scrap ribbons.

This weaving celebration is being held in the intersection outside of K’Glen Deli & Sari Sari store; on Roosevelt avenue between 65th st and 65th pl. Glen has agreed to be our community partner in this celebration and will be providing food and snacks.

At the end of our celebration, community members finished weaving projects will be exhibited on the wall next to K'Glen's Deli & Sari Sari store in October, Filipino American History Month.
